Lacking DIY motivation? Get inspired by next year’s biggest colour trends.

Colour is one of the best ways to put our own stamp on a property. Whether you’re into calming neutrals or striking statement shades, colour allows us to truly express ourselves.

And because there’s no better feeling than finding new shades to fall in love with, here’s our ultimate guide on the colour of the year for 2023…

How is the colour of the year 2023 chosen?

A committee of analysts and colour experts look for common themes across a variety of industries. They make a note of patterns, analyse data and consider future trends. The colour of the year is also informed by world events, social media, the latest innovations and more. This all comes together to build a picture of what the colour of the year will be.

What happens when the colour of the year 2023 is chosen?

The hero hues go on to inspire designers across the world. Because of this, you’ll see them used by your favourite homeware, beauty and fashion brands. But they may also make an appearance in video games or on product packaging and branding. Previous colours of the year include Tangerine Tango, Classic Blue, Turquoise and Rose Quartz (also known as the now-famous ‘millennial pink’).

Who decides the colour of the year for 2023?

Pantone (the world renowned colour-matching system) is recognised globally as a leading source of colour expertise. Because of this, they’re perhaps the most well known deciders of the ‘colour of the year’. But these days a number of brands announce their own predictions based on their own research. You’re sure to recognise big names such as Krylon and Dulux who release their top picks each year. So you’ll never be short of new colours to discover.

What is the Krylon colour of the year 2023?

As one of the most well-known spray paint brands in the world, Krylon has been at the forefront of predicting colour trends for 75 years. Their colour of the year 2023 is the ultra-sophisticated Spanish Moss. This rich green is inspired by mossy terrains, dense forests and the renewing power of nature.

What is the Dulux colour of the year 2023?

For the past two decades the experts at Dulux have chosen a colour of the year based on the ‘mood of the moment’ and this year they’ve chosen Wild Wonder. The shade is said to evoke the magic of nature and feelings of optimism. Dulux has also released four beautiful colour palettes that complement Wild Wonder and bring this beautifully glowy yellow to life.

What is the Benjamin Moore colour of the year 2023?

This luxurious paint brand claims to have been ‘dreaming in colour’ since 1883 so it’s clear they know their stuff when it comes to trend predictions. Their colour of the year for 2023 is the vivacious Raspberry Blush. A maximalist’s dream, this pink-tinged coral is sure to add a charismatic feel to any property.

What is the WGSN colour of the year?

WGSN is the global authority on change. They use expert trend forecasting combined with data science to help businesses stay ahead of the right trends. Digital Lavender is their selection for colour of the year 2023.

WGSN says Digital Lavender represents balance, calmness, serenity. It apparently also provides a sense of escapism. They predict we’ll see Digital Lavender coloured products appear in the worlds of fashion, wellness, consumer electronics, homeware and more.

What is the Pantone colour of the year 2023?

This year Pantone invites us all to explore the ‘Magentaverse’ with a colour described as joyous, optimistic and rooted in nature.

Viva Magenta 18-1750 is colour of the year 2023 and has been chosen for its supposed vim and vigour. Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman says Vivia Magenta: “Galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”

Inspired by cochineal (one of the strongest, brightest natural dyes in the world) Viva Magenta is said to be perfect for those with a rebellious spirit who like to write their own narratives. Perfect if you’re looking to make a statement!
